    Yes, you can run the audio thru the HDMI.
    The optical is there if you don’t have a stereo with HDMI but still want to run the audio thru it.

    I love watching tech reviews on YouTube and stumbled across this video as I was in the market for an AppleTV and wanted to get other users’ takes on it. Very well done. It’s apparent you put a lot of prep work into it, unlike many of the video reviews you find here which seem more unprofessional and off the cuff.

    @mattsarah6 HDMI will handle the sound. The fibre optic is a nice to have in case your stereo doesn’t except HDMI (just your TV)

    I would think it was worth $99 to keep your fancy laptop on your lap surfing the web while listening to music or watching shows. I doubt you want to be tethered to your TV. To each their own I guess.

    If you have a laptop with HDMI just plug that into your tv and OMG you can see your computers display on your tv. simple as that you don’t need any silly apple tv
