Question by Travis: Can I use a Live CD to run linux without installing the OS on my PS3 . . . Similar to "trying" Ubuntu on a PC?
Basically, I want to use Firefox on my PS3 (Slingbox: which cannot be accessed through the PS3 browser). This is more difficult now that you cannot partition the PS3 hard drive. This is a short term fix, as I will be ordering a new computer soon, however it could still be useful for others. Any ideas?

worth a try i guess, but it seemed like they took the feature out.
Although, if all they did was take partitioning off then maybe.

What do you think? Answer below!

  1. If you have been keeping up with your PS3 Software Updates, Sony killed the “other OS” option, so if the PS3 so much as smells Linux it will brick up and you can’t use it to game and other PS3 things.

So keep the Linux disks out of the PS3!!!

  2. The PS3 won’t brick up, but you’re not going to be able to do it without custom firmware, which can get you kicked off of the PSN.

  3. For info on installing Ubuntu on the PS3 go here http://psubuntu.com/
As far as I know there is no livecd.
