Hi, i have cablevision with an optimum online motorola modem with optimum voice built in. With LINGO set at UT Starcom G729, SLINGBOX, and a hard wired desktop computer with windows Me. connected to my router. Now upstaires i have another desktop, that has a linksys wireless adapter. This router constantly has to be reset. It is driving me crazy. Do i need to get another router, maybe WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware. Or maybe if i can add DD-WRT to my router. I have no idea if this would fix the problem. But this is really killing me. Help

Wireless routers are very hard to troubleshoot, the best place to start is turn off your computer's wireless card and plug in with a cord. If it works wired than it's a wifi issue, if it fails wired it's obviously not interference.
Your modem may use the MAC address to assign IPs. I had this with Cox high-speed internet.
If it cuts out both wired and wireless, try looking for "MAC cloning" on the router and set it to match whatever your computer was that was originally connected. This way your ISP will think you don't have a router and it shouldn't keep dropping. That fixed it for me on Cox.
Another problem I had at my parents' house is cordless phones. 2.4ghz phones (or neighbor's phones) can mess up wireless. Does it work if you hook up wired? If it works wired but not wireless try letting it sit for a while and check back. If the problem goes away it's interference - try changing the router's channel (1, 6, and 11 are best in theory) or getting a 5.8 Ghz, 900Mhz, or DECT 6.0 type cordless phone, they are less likely to interfere.
Less likely but still possible is a failed router. I did have one that had to be reset daily (different brand though) and when it was replaced under warranty, the problem was cured.

Ok I'm moving to Houston but I want to make sure I can watch every Saints game. I don't want to pay the 0 every year to get NFL Sunday Ticket. Is there another way? Any website that streams this for free/cheap? Any Help is appreciated. I thought about a Slingbox at my parents house but I heard it takes alot of computing power and my parent's computer sucks.
I've checked they do broadcast some of the games but not all of them. I need to see ALL of them.

Here's what I do....
If my game is not on tv (Raider fan living in Green Bay), I go to the Buffalo Wild Wings or another sports bar that has the ticket. I ask for my game and there it is.
Most of the time, I get away with spending less than and still have a great time.

Hi I am custumozing a Sony vaio and use Slingbox on my laptop often and keep the computer plugged into a TV often with HDMI hookup. Is it worth the to upgrade to the ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470 GPU (512MB VRAM) from Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD for the Vaio? Im using an i5 processor on it with 4GB Memory and 500 GB harddrive

Definitely upgrade.If you don't you wont' be able to run most games (all intel integrated graphics suck).With the HD 5470 you make it a good gaming laptop.

Later this year, I would be moving out of my parents house and into an apartment.
The think is that my roommate and I will not be able to afford both internet and cable services. And then I thought about using the cable from my parent's house.
I was thinking about using my old laptop or old desktop computer and set it up to do a wake on wireless lan, and then do a remote desktop connection from our apartment to the computer. The laptop or desktop would be using a Linux-compatible tv tuner and I would use remote desktop to watch the tv shows.
Of course I will be getting a remote desktop connect that support audio, file transfer, and linux OS. And I will be using linuxtv or mythbutnu as a source for finding compatible tv tuners.
Would this idea be doable, I know this is make a DIY slingbox. Also what problems would you foresee. Besides the one that deals with mythbuntu itself and compatibility.
JimDandy, my parents house and the apartment will be about 30 miles away or more depending on what apartment we get.
bandaid_46, slingbox does the same things and I have my parent's ok.

I am currently living in Okinawa, Japan. There are a few sites I like to stream content from that require an IP address from the U.S. I have found a couple free web-based VPN clients that help me get around this problem, but they have a couple drawbacks - 1) they have a bandwidth cap and 2) they are too slow for me to continue streaming my Slingbox and Vonage phone.
What I'm looking for (and I'm willing to pay a reasonable price if there's no such thing as a free service that offers all of it) is a VPN client that:
-- will give me a US IP address
-- has no bandwidth cap (or a very high one)
-- that allows me to split tunnel so I can continue to stream content that does not require a U.S. IP at the normal high speed rate my fiber optic carrier gives me. I'll also need to know how to set up the split tunneling on my iMac G5 
(if this client has no bandwidth cap and a very high speed, then the split tunneling is not necessary)

I only know half your question.
the mac os DOES NOT support multiple gateway address. So your ideal to split tunneling is impossible.

NBC , ABC , CBS , FOX , SCI-fi , and a few other television stations now allow people to view full episodes of their shows on their websites - that is now how I seem to watch all of the programs I like -
I also watch Tom Green on his own site/channel -
I don't need to download this stuff to watch it - I don't even think I can if I wanted to -
The best situation for me would be to somehow wirelessly send the shows that I am watching over to the television where I could watch them with a bit more comfort -
I have an LG LCD television with a PC input in the back as well as a bunch of other inputs as well-
The Apple TV seems to be only for use with downloaded Itunes content - and the Slingbox seems cool but of course not what I am looking for -

I need to know if this is going to work before I start setting it up. I have an Apple Airport Extreme router that only has 3 ethernet ports on it but I need 4. I want to plug a Windows Vista machine in the 1st port, a SlingBox AV in the 2nd and piggyback a Linksys ethernet router (not wireless) in the 3rd. Off the Linksys I want to run a XP machine and a Windows 98SE machine. I am also using the Airport Extreme to run my MacBook wirelessly. I will be hooking up a network hard drive and a network printer to the Airport Extreme's USB port thru a USB hub. Will Netwok Magic with the Mac upgrade do the job? I have a very simple home network, I run 3 computers in my network. But I had problems getting all the computers to share one internet connection and one printer. IP addresses and all that good stuff. The Windows XP network setup wizard was no help.
Someone told me about NetWork Magic, so I downloaded the free version. I loved how easy it made setting up my network so much, that I ended up purchasing the upgraded premium version. I have nothing but praise for NetWork Magic.
The only thing I can see you having a problem with is the "Airport Extreme" router. I don't think you can effectively "piggyback" one router into another.
If you ask me, you need to get a different router, one with enough ports to support all the components you want to connect together into one unit. They sell routers with up to 24 ports on them.
That might be the easiest solution to your networking problem.

Im wanting to be able to show my xbox 360 on my ipod touch. I saw the slingbox but i want to try to avoid the 0 cost. I thought about plugging my xbox into my computer via a composite connection through a pci card but thn. Im not sure what to do after that. I know it sounds wieRd playing xbox on a 3x6 screen but if you were in my position you would understand. I have almost every means of internet, router config, computer, software, and network as all my equipment is centrally located. Also if possible i Would like o do the same thing with my att uverse iptv stb thanks in advance!
Well im not wanting to stream it from the xbox directly. What im wanting to do is use my computer as a slingbox.

Unfortunately it's not possible. The Xbox 360 won't let you stream anything to any device at all.
You can stream what you see on your PC to your iPod touch but that requires installing additional software which an Xbox 360 isn't capable of (well it's OS doesn't allow you to). So the only way maybe through the Slingbox which you plug in the cables to it and stream.

For "Windows 7" 32bit-
WinTV7.2 with Extend, Slingbox (always solid), Orb.com / Orblive (iphone), Ustream Producer, Windows Media Center,
So I have a lot of video programs that seem to have conflicts at times. I can't really blame the computer for being confused. Microsoft doesn't help the situation as far as I can tell. It's turned into a "Black Art" to make it all work. "Hope" shouldn't be in my tool-belt and I'm sick of this. I use these all for different things so yes I need them all. Not usually at the same time of course. My only semi breakthroughs are stopping a program at start-up or closing then restarting, and reinstalling so the last install takes precedence (hopefully). It's also not a Windows 7 issue as I just left Vista and it's all the same. It's a Codec Cornucopia Cavalcade of CR@P. The Quad C as it were.
Does anyone have advice on how to get a better handle on this? Am I missing something? I've looked for programs/utilities on download.com and I got nuth'in. I hope I'm just not searching right. Is there a way to force codec sharing or duplicate the codecs and separate them?
Any tips / tricks you may know of would be helpful.
I love computers but there a few things I didn't want to know anything about. Networking, Codecs, Registry +++ I now feel dumber knowing what I know.

I've never totally understood codec management, but have had three strategies in the past:
Download a codec pack - which will install all the common codecs and a bunch more you've never heard of. It'll warn you about conflicts too. I used to use the nemo codec pack, then switched to the k-lite codec pack, which still seems to be going strong.
After that era, I switched to installing exactly the codecs I needed, which was generally just xvid and lame (the acm version, so it's recognized by windows and shows up in programs).
Now I just use vlc media player, which has it's own copies of codecs rather than asking windows for them.
Since you're using multiple video programs, I'd suggest going for that k-lite codec pack.
