The advantage of Slingbox is that it can be remotely controlled and transmit over the internet.
Let's say you are a traveling salesman. If you have a sling box, when you are on the road, you can watch all your shows, your local news, etc. all in the timeslots you are accustom to, etc. You can watch your home TV from the road, via the Internet.

Let’s be concerned about the current slingboxes on the market.
The slingbox Tuner was a slingbox that connects directly to a wall jack. It is for those who can be satisfied with just channels 0-99.
Then we have the slingbox solo. The slingbox solo has A/V jacks that are capable of high definition. It connects to a cable or satellite box rather than directly to a cable wall jack.
Then you have the slingbox pro and slingbox pro hd. The slingbox tuner has been replaced by the slingbox pro in that it has a tuner to plug into a wall jack. It also has A/V composite jacks to plug into a digital cable or satellite box. The slingbox pro HD has component A/V connections which allows for high definition. The Pro HD also has a built in digital tuner. The Tuner and Pro have analog tuners built in. They might be no good after 2012. The FCC mandated that cable keep analog until 2012. We don’t know what will happen after that.
The original pro can deliver HD, but it requires an additional dongle to buy. The Pro HD already comes with HD built in.
