I want to get a SlingBox pro, but do not have a DVR or Cable box. Can I just connect the SlingBox Pro to the cable in the wall?

A slingbox will play (or sling) whatever you plug into it. So if all you have is basic cable from the cable in the wall, then the slingbox will play basic cable channels 1-99.
Of course, that's just TV programming. You can connect your DVD player or your appleTV or your security camera, or whatever. And if you happen to get a DVR or a sat box or a cable box, then by all means plug 'em in.
