Do i need these programs on my laptop?
Question by : Do i need these programs on my laptop?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61 (Notebook) laptop- it's by no means a "luxury' edition- i paid about 0 for it last year, and I mainly use it for internet, document writing, and storing docs and pics-
It has just the original memory, and i'm trying to clear up some stuff i don't use to free up some space. Problem is, I don't know what half this junk is- I had HUGE Norton files for some backup trial I deleted, as I have no intention of buying it; and I've got TONS of this thing called Cyberlink- I don't know what they're for; as I've never used them. I also had something for slingbox- having never bought one, I obviously wasn't using the preloaded software though, so deleted that.
Can anyone tell me what this Cyberlink stuff is for, and if i really need it? I do use my laptop to upload digital photo's, but I generally use an online editor that's free; and i don't really use my laptop to watch DVD's or listen to music- i'd like to have the option to do so, but I have a window's media player that suits me fine. Is there any reason I shouldn't delete this cyberlink stuff? Its using a lot of space, and i'd like to delete it, but I'm afraid I'll delete something pivotal.
The Cyberlink Corp publisher programs i have are as follows:
cyberlink Mediashow,
Cyberlink PowerDVD 8,
Cyberlink DVD suite
PowerDiretor
Power2Go
I also have something called Lightscribe system software- is this something i really need? Keeping in mind I don't have the cash to shell out for some extra memory right now, and I'd like to free up space. Thanks for any advice in advance-

The Cyberlink is a software program to DE-CODE the typical DVD formats so that you can see them. You can replace it with the free Klite player that plays EVERYTHING -search free codec klite.
Lightscribe is a burner program that burns a LABEL on the TOP surface of special, high cost “Lightscribe” CDs and DVDs – most people never use it.
The other suggestions of cleaners are fairly good – the TONS of junk and pop ups and trialwares, and
adware loaded on new computers is a REAL pain – You should do the BACKUP and RESTORE proceedure to MAKE a new CD or DVD set of RESTORE, FACTORY, Default, disks right away. Most computers have a hidden, separate, partition on the harddrive, with a copy of the original C: drive on it. You press F11 or F12 or whatever, and it copies everything from the second folder to C:. They used to SHIP a set of CD’s or DVD’s that you can recover from, and put the C: drive back, but now they have a software routine that YOU burn your own set of backups. Be certain to do this.
If you REALLY want fast, powerful, clean, then FORMAT the entire hard drive, and put on a CLEAN, new windows. – Be certain to go online and look up ALL the drivers for sound, video, motherboard, Lan card, wireless, , etc. and burn them on a CD so that after you install windows, you have all the drivers sitting there — this way, after a few hours, you will have 100% clean windows, all the drivers, and then re- install only the programs you WANT and USE, and you will find the computer is faster and has lots of free space…. There are FREE antivirus programs like AVG, Free firewalls like Comodo, Free OFFICE clones like Open Office, Free graphic programs like GIMP etc. Free just about everything including FireFox browser, or Google Chrome etc. so that by putting on Free, upgradeable, always updated, software, and getting rid of up to 20 GigaBytes of ad- ware and spam, you could get a fast, clean unit. After loading a CLEAN install for people, they are amazed at how fast their “old” computer runs – no CPU or Memory upgrade needed – just get rid of the garbage!
