Does dish network charge for revceiver upgrades?
Question by disturbed_rock05: Does dish network charge for revceiver upgrades?
We have a receiver from at least 2000 or earlier, it's basic and crappy...do they offer free upgrades? I wanna get a DVR model so I get the Slingbox watch anywhere thing.

Call them up. You probably want an HD receiver, which will also trigger a dish replacement. It may be free with a new 2 year contract.

In some cases there can be an upgrade charge for a new receiver; it’s common when looking to get a DVR. If you would like to e-mail me your account information I can review what upgrade options are available for you! My e-mail is nick.franta@dishnetwork.com

As the Dish Rep said, you may be eligible for a free upgrade, even to a DVR. If you have been a customer for such a long time, you can probably demand one. If they want to charge you, tell them it isn’t fair that you have to pay and threaten to take your business elsewhere. DirecTV is looking pretty good these days as well. If they won’t play ball, ask to speak to Loyalty Team. They should be able to do something for you that normal reps can’t. As far as the ViP 922 SlingBox goes, you won;t get one of them for free. Even new customers are charged $199. You also have the option to cancel the service and have someone else living there who is over 18 sign up in their name instead. That way they would be eligible for all the best promos and get the free DVR and stuff. Hope this helps. Check out the site below for more info.
