Well, I don't know too much about anything, but I have a laptop and HD TV. I connected the HDMI cord to the laptop, then plug into the HDMI spot on the TV. Then after they are conneccted I had to hit "Source" on my TV remote and change it from TV/Cable to HDMI Component. So maybe that helps a little?

Does your laptop have an HDMI port? If not I might have some bad news for you.
Theres definitely some video port you can use on the laptop. Probably you’ll need a converter. I’m not positive you can convert it to HDMI, but you can probably convert it to component video or S-video, which most TVS have.
[thumbs up to fish, I was thinking the same thing a little bit.]

I am continually frustrated at these types of questions where important, specific information is lacking that prevents a definitive answer form being offered.
It would have helped if you included your TV’s make and model number as well as that for your laptop. All TVs are not the same for the input/output connections at the back./
It might work if, and only if:
a. your laptop has an HDMI Output connection; and
b. your TV has an unused HDMI Input connection.
Then you hook up the cable you bought between the laptop and TV. You may have to configure your laptop to direct video and audio to an external device (via its HDMI plug) AND you would have to use the TV’s controls to select the HDMI input to which the laptop is connected as the TV’s source. Then it should display the laptiop’s screen and play any of the laptop’s sound. You may have to adjust the computer’s resolution via the Contyrol Panel to see the same picture on the TV that you would have on the laptop’s screen.
That is all I can offer at this time.
