i can use internet explorer, use AIM, email, but i cant use firefox, my virus protection wont update because it says i have no internet connection, and the same thing goes with my slingbox. What gives?

This sounds like your firewall could be blocking some of the traffics. I would check that by first disabling the firewall and test. Just don't forget to turn on the firewall. lol

You probably have a firewall that’s blocking the internet access to these things. Check the settings of your firewall and it will all change.

Do you mean you can’t start Firefox or it won’t browse the Internet. If it’s the latter, that’s weird because Firefox accesses the Internet on the Exact same ports as IE does, namely ports 80 and 443 (http and https) in which case, it’s not going to be your firewall. (I’m not that familiar with windoze latest software that attempts to stop software from connecting to hosts on the Internet but I’m sure it’d say “Hey, you can’t use Firefox to go on the Internet” or at least it would ask you).
No Internet Connection ‘ey? Are u sure it’s not just that your Internet connection is intermittently cutting out? That’s quite common.
Next time you’re successfully surfing the Net with IE, open Firefox as well and see if they both work at the same time.
