is slingbox at all like a tivo?
im looking to get the $100 slingbox tuner, but id like to know if i can record cable tv on my mac similar to a tivo, either with slingboxes mac os x beta software or other (free) third party software. id like to use the recordings to burn seasons of my favorite shows.

It doesnt have the capablility to do that from the Manufacturer. But there is a Slingbox that you can buy that will play things from your DVR at home.
Now keep in mind that any signal playing through your computer can somehow be recorded. So I am sure it can be done it just depends on if you can find the software to do it.
