Play Xbox360 from remote location through computer?
Question by St Johnny: Play Xbox360 from remote location through computer?
Here's the setup.
My xbox is at home.
I am a few hours away at school.
The question:
is there any way to remotely connect to my xbox, much like a VNC, to be able to play it from school, through my computer with another controller, while it is at home turned on and connected to the interent?
I figured someone would have figured how to hack this by now.
but searching around all i could find is how to connect the xbox to your computer monitor and how to use a controller on your computer...
and emulators. which is not at all what i am talking about.
think of it like slingbox. but instead of controlling your directv or whatever, your controlling your xbox. not just playing movies and music but actually playing the game in the disk drive.
links are preferred.
thanks.

It may be technically possible, but there'd be too much lag for it to be playable.

How can I record the Superbowl 2010 onto a blank DVD from my computer?
Question by Nicole Brown: How can I record the Superbowl 2010 onto a blank DVD from my computer?
I live in Ukraine, even though I'm American, and two of my friends need the superbowl onto a DVD because they can't get it. I can't record it onto a DVD from my TV because I don't have a DVD player that can record and burn it onto a disc. I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that I could go to that will let me burn it onto a disc.Or I also have SlingPlayer. If anyone knows how to put a recorded show from SlingPlayer (SlingBox?) onto a DVD, that would be helpful too.
Cheers!

Watch it on TV in the computer with a TV tuner. Record it to your hard drive. Then use something like DVDFlick to convert it and burn the DVD. (You'll probably need a different program, because DVDFlick most likely will convert to a format the TVs there can't play - you probably use PAL. If they want to watch on computers, just burn what you record to the DVD.)

What Should I get to record xbox 360 gameplay in good quality (and possibly TV shows) (choices in details)?
Question by John: What Should I get to record xbox 360 gameplay in good quality (and possibly TV shows) (choices in details)?
I've done some research and should I get the
Hava Platinum HD (I dont need Wifi)
HD PVR model 1212
A Slingbox (havent done a reseach on this, only heard about it)
(there was something else that started with an H, but I cant find it)
or suggest your own setup.
Ideally, I would want to spend under 0, but suggest whatever would work (I found the HAVA Platinum HD for and was leaning towards that, but I was wondering that since the video has to be fed into that and then out to my TV, would there be noticeable lag?)
Apparently HAVA doesnt record in full HD, just 480i or something similar, any suggestions for HD recording?
The Viera is a TV, I already have an HDTV

NEED LAPTOP ADVICE! Can anybody help me before I make a huge purchase?
Question by CharlieAS: NEED LAPTOP ADVICE! Can anybody help me before I make a huge purchase?
I'm about to buy a laptop but I'm not sure 'how much' laptop I need and I'm paranoid about blowing over 00 on computer that won't fit all my needs. I want a laptop that's not going to be absolutely out-of-date a year from now (for example, Windows 7 is coming out soon). I think I've narrowed my choices down to the HP HDX 16t (or 18t) Premium Series or the Sony VAIO AW Series.
I want a laptop with one of the newest (and fastest) processors, a LOT of RAM and hard drive size, an amazing graphics card, Blu-ray drive, TV tuner, HDMI, fingerprint reader (not 100% necessary), and DEFINITELY a decent # of ports (eSata, Firewire, USB)... some generous expansion ports would be ideal as well.
Basically, I want a laptop that will be my business and entertainment hub, one that is NOT going to slow down when I open up a bunch of programs, Internet tabs, edit movies, burn cd's/dvd's or store thousands of mp3s and pictures. I NEED it to be upgradeable so I'm not complaining a year or two from now that the damn laptop is obsolete. I'm also planning on hooking it up to my HDTV and/or using a Slingbox to control my TV needs from my laptop via wireless.
Alright, can ANYBODY provide some guidance before I take the plunge? Are there other laptops out there that offer these same functions that I'm not seeing, is there a computer coming out in the next few weeks or months that will blow all the current ones away, or am I just asking too much out of laptop?
*P.S. Does anybody know if you can use a wireless Internet service card on your laptop at home? and if so, will it still work if there is already Internet service (with a router) in the home? I only ask because the person in question DOES NOT feel like upgrading our Internet service to something faster, and I don't want to buy a 00 laptop and have it connected to an ISP which moves as slow as a turtle.

Ever thought of Apple? Most reliable laptop I have ever had. Their entry level ones are about 00 but if you check the specs they are higher than many computers on the market. You will not get things like Blu Ray, HDMI, and TV tuners for under a 1000.

Q&A: Two HD signals to One TV and One Monitor?
Question by BustedDreams: Two HD signals to One TV and One Monitor?
Whats the most cost-efficient way to have different programs running on my HD TV and HD monitor simultaneously?
I currently have a Motorola HD DVR box hooked up to my TV. I just purchased a 24" monitor with plenty of inputs. I know I can call the the cable company and have them send out another HD box for another a month, but I don't plan on using it often enough to justify it.
Slingbox Solo or Pro? I've looked into it, but unless there's something I am missing it looks like I'd be watching same programming on both.
DVR box? It is dual tuner... any programming modification on the box that would let me put one tuner out to HDMI, other to component?
Best answer:
Answer by schwildcat1977
First on the DVR the dual tuner fuction is to alow you to record one chanel while you watch another....if yhou change that configuration you will lose that capability.
What you can do is take the cable going from the HD DVR to the tv and put a cable splitter there. that will give you two out puts to go to the HD TV and the HD monitor. You will have to watch the same programing on each but If yhou don't plan on using it very much that shouldn't be a problem.
feel free to send me a message if you have another question about this.

Q&A: Open port – should I be worried about doing this???
Question by Matt M: Open port - should I be worried about doing this???
Ok, here's the deal - my college blocks all but web and pop3 ports (supposedly all but 80 and 110 are blocked) and my ISP at home blocks ports 25, 80, and 110 because running a server violates the TOS.
I'm thinking port 443 (HTTPS) will probably be open at the college (HTTPS sites work, I assume it's open) and I know it's not blocked at home. I have software firewall on my main computer and XP firewall on the other computer that's not usually running.
Is it asking for trouble if I leave that port open on my home router - forwarded to either a printer-server or (future) slingbox?
Thanks in advance!
The college blocks all OUTBOUND ports except those to prevent file-sharing, spam, and such on their network.

Could they block only the cam portion of yahoo?
The started to block sex, drugs, gambling sites, but I don't know if that is related to the cam problem.

If I want to watch TV channels in my desktop PC, Do I just need a Box? or Do I need an antenna too?
Question by Fist_on_fire: If I want to watch TV channels in my desktop PC, Do I just need a Box? or Do I need an antenna too?
Well, I was looking on ebay, and I found so many offers of box, that tells me that I can watch hundreds or thousands of channels in my PC, But my question is, If I but one of them, what else do I need? i read of the software too... But do I need an antenna? what kind of cable does it have?
and they sells TV cards too, how do they work? what do I need?
By the way, I downloaded a software named Slingplayer, but when I start it, it says "No Slingbox found", what kind of box do I need?
Thanks for reading and I Hope you could help me!!!
Best answer:
Answer by classicsat
Those software that claim hundreds to thousands of channels are scams, avoid them. They just sell links to internet streams that you can get for free, and none of them are the major channels you probably want.
To avoid the scams, you would do it with your own TV source.
You will want some sort of hardware that can present the TV you now can receive to your computer. A Slingbox is one way, a tuner/capture card is another.

If I am going for endurance as far as long lasting which brand is the best for a laptop?
Question by tom s: If I am going for endurance as far as long lasting which brand is the best for a laptop?
Hi I am trying to customize a laptop that I will be using for everydayday use, a good amount of downloading, Slingbox(for college), and it will be plugged into a TV most of the time with an HDMI cable. I really am leaning towards a Sony Vaio(with i5 Processor) rather than a mac or any other brand. If you have any advice please help. My reasoning is that I am used to PCs and I can get more memory, a better processor ad blue ray disc for about 200 bucks cheaper with the vaio. I am planning on getting good security for the vaio if i get it.
Also if you can help would upgrading the harddrive from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm make a difference in how long te computer lasts?
Thanks so much fr all your help!

Laptops are being made far better than years ago the older models did last yet over the long haul the wear and tear on the CPU and the ports was seen.
Looking at newer makes and models they last far better and they offer way more in the long run also the quality of the CPU is far superior and faster as well. The motherboards are amazing the have placed more and more and they do last. It does come down to taking care of the laptop such as heat and cold, dust, liquids, etc. just take care of the unit and it will last you far longer.
As for the hard drive yes a 7,200RPM is better however I have seen even a 5,400 one being used for video editing and worked well. If you can afford that yeah we like faster drives and all the RAM we can get the most out of the unit. Would it make it last longer for the end run, not really.

Answer by Timmy K
it depends on what type of tv you have you could set an s-type (standard audio video cords) that go from the serial port on your computer to the AV on your tv. if you have an HD tv you could get an HDMI cord. If your computer has an HDMI output on it than just goes from the hdmi port on your computer to the tv..the tv will search for the output automatically and display whats on your screen on the tv..also if you use the hdmi cord you will have to go into the audio settings on ur computer and change it so that the hdmi will play the volume out of the tv otherwise it will play volume out of your computer
