Do you anything about the Slingbox?

Question by Just ˡⁿ ʟʌ ʟʌ ʟ@ŋD: Do you anything about the Slingbox?
I want to get the slingbox, but I don't know what's the best one to buy. I have Macbook and I have 130 dollars to spend on it. So which Slingbox do you recommend? Also, is there another company that is better and cheaper than Slingbox or is Slingbox the best?

Does anyone use slingbox? Does it work well?

Question by Michael M: Does anyone use slingbox? Does it work well?

Answer by jimrb22
My parents have a Slingbox which is connected to their Bright House DVR and delivers via his Bright House hosted cable Internet service. My sister watches TV shows several times a week on her computer from Michigan that were previously recorded on my parents DVR in Florida. She can control the DVR online using Slingbox's included software and play back shows at will, schedule new recordings or watch live TV and record other channels at the same time. She opted for no cable TV service in Michigan and uses Slingbox with her cable Internet service for all of her TV watching (appx 4-5 hrs/wk) and plans to use the same system while living in Paris next summer. She highly recommends it.

Slingbox/Internet Streaming question?

slingbox
by Matt Biddulph

Question by Mike Baggins: Slingbox/Internet Streaming question?
I have a question about the slingbox and internet streaming of television picutres. The slingbox works very well for me in terms of quality and clarity of broadcast. The problem I have with it is the time lag or buffering. I use it almost exclusively for live sports and the buffering can make this a frustrating process. Is there anyway that i can 'broadcast' or recieve my cable tv at home through the internet in real time?

Best answer:

Answer by Steve
From your description, it is a little unclear about whether you are talking about the normal delay of a few seconds when you first start streaming the video from your slingbox, or whether you are talking about repeated pauses in the broadcast for rebuffering because the bandwidth between your slingbox and the computer or device you are watching it on is not big/wide enough.

If you're talking about repeated pauses for rebuffering, then the only good way to solve that is to buy more bandwidth, either on the network where your slingbox lives, or on the network where you are watching it, or both.

If on the other hand you're talking about the one-time buffering delay when watching anything on slingbox, in my experience, the video from my slingbox is usually less than ten seconds behind the actual broadcast. That buffered delay is necessary for the video and audio to stream smoothly to you and will occur no matter how wide your bandwidth is, although more bandwidth may shorten the time required for buffering a little. If this is what you're talking about, I'm a little surprised that it is a problem. Are you trying to watch the streamed video while sitting in the arena or listening on the radio or something else that makes the delay obvious?

What’s an inexpensive way to transmit a video signal from a security camera over the Internet?

Question by boferguson: What's an inexpensive way to transmit a video signal from a security camera over the Internet?
We have installed security cameras at one location in our business, and have decided it is best to monitor the feeds from a different location. Both sites have high speed internet via cable bodem, and the camera uses a standard RCA video jack. Is there a simple hardware and software solution to transmit the feed to be viewed on a PC screen at our other location? I have looked at Slingbox, but think that may be overkill for our situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, all you need is a good DVR with internet connection.

Has several. Run all cams to the DVR, let the output feed the internet.
This one will handle 4 cameras

I have a couple of clients using this method and it has several advantages over other options. For one they get recorded sessions from the cameras even if they fail to monitor.

What is the best online service for watching American television while overseas?

slingbox
by nino63004

Question by Matthew: What is the best online service for watching American television while overseas?
I'm moving overseas and want to be able to log on and watch cable TV, DVR shows etc, via the internet. I've seen a few online services that use a slingbox type setup where you pay a monthly fee and they set everything up stateside and give you a logon. Has anyone ever used one of these or have any experience with these?

Best answer:

Answer by FunKills
Don't pay. You can go to ovguide.com and type in any shows and it'll search and find. Also, Sidereel dot com is good 'cause they will even track your shows for you. Once the show is tracked you will see the "main links" (Amazon, ITunes) where you can bbuy the episodes or movies. But right under those links is a button that says "other links" or something similar.
Click that and then you can watch on megavideo or other streaming free links. Megavideo "times out" after 72min of watch time per day, but you can get around that by either working offline after it is streamed or resetting your router box. Megavideo will try to make you pay once the timer is up, but, again, unplug your modem and reset it. All done.
The sites are all streaming so you do not have to download, but there are other streaming sites like divxden that have all kinds of stuff but you just have to download their divx player. Your spyware will go "NOOO!" but it's really not a deal. Just adware, which you remove later.

Good luck. Enjoy.
