Problem connecting to home lan at work?
Ok I just got a slingbox and tried it at work, but it isnt working because of a firewall. How can I get around this? I have a domain name and am trying to point my slingbox to that to connect to it, but I cant figure out how. I dont know much about DNS so I cant get that to setup and wouldnt know what to do even if it did. Do I go to my website or hell I dont know what to do any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well you could try to staticly route your slingbox to the public ip on the public side of your networ.

open up port 5001 in your firewall, then in your router foward port 5001 to your slingbox both tcp and udp. it is best to assign your sling bot an ip address outside of your routers dhcp stash, so change your routers maximum ip to 192.xxx.xxx.250 so if your router is set to assign all comps ip addresses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255 you would change the ending one to 192.168.1.250
now manually assign your slingbox an ip like 192.168.1.253, or somewhere inbetween .250 and .255 and set the DNS server to automatic, or if you want, to your routers ip, 192.168.1.1
then set up the port forwarding in your router to forward port 5001 to the ip address of 192.168.1.253 (your slingbox’s ip)
*note* your router may not nesessarily use the said numbers, just go with the equivilant of what it acctually is, these are just examples.
