I own a SlingBox. I got it for my brother for Christmas. He's on the road a lot and all he has is a laptop, so I got the SlingBox so it would serve as a TV as well. He said it's worked well so far. When I watched TV on his laptop, there was a slight lag, but it played smoothly.
I think if you want to record shows, you need to get a different application. I don't think the SlingBox has the capability on its own.
