Q&A: How does a slingbox work? Does it report it’s IP address to the main servers at slingmedia.com?

Just trying to figure out how it's located on the massive internet when using it remotely. Also, to be able to watch a slingbox remotely, do you have to first look at it on it's local network to allow it on your profile?

As near as I can tell, the Slingbox “pings” its the home server with its IP address, and when you log onto the Slingbox website, it connects your client to that IP address.
