Well, Etisalat is the best internet provider in the UAE. A 512K speed Al Shamil broadband connection would be perfect for home but a 256K connection is also not bad. Recently, speeds as high as 4 mb, 8 mb and 16 mb have been introduced but are recommended for office use and cost a fortune. A 512 k connection would cost you approximately Dh.180 (USD 49).Yes, of course you can use slngbox and enjoy videos without studdering. Hope this helped...

You can use any thing except VOIP devices (net phone). The SlingBox is sold here as well.
Both Etisalat and Du support up to 24MB DSL for homes , but as others mentioned it will cost a lot for that speed, a 1MB or 2MB connection is 249/349 respectively with Etisalat and a little less with Du (Dubai only), it is more than adequate for home use. The cheapest DSL is 79 but that only gives you 15 hours per month and you pay per hour afterwards. If you install a 2nd DSL line there is a 25% off discount from Etisalat on the 2nd line monthly rate.
You can save on installation and monthly rates by signing for the 3-in-1 line (phone+DSL+cable TV) instead of subscribing individually.
Or if you want it on the move a USB wireless modem (EDGE) is available with a sim card from Etisalat, Du (7.9MB both), and Thuraya (via satellite DSL). For these expect an average of 800~1000 AED charges for unlimited usage depending on company and type of data package, as these charge per MB not per hour.
For 2-way video try ISDN lines
