Q&A: Slingbox AV video quality?
Question by CobMan151: Slingbox AV video quality?
I want to get a Slingbox AV so I can watch my satellite TV (Dish Network DVR) on my laptop. I would like to know how the full screen video quality on my MacBook will compare to the quality on my regular TV that's hooked up to the satellite receiver directly. I wont be accessing the Slingbox over the internet-just on my wireless home network. I use an Apple Airport Extreme base station router and my MacBook is a 2nd generation with a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. Anybody with Slingbox experience please respond. Thanx!

Quality would be better due to the higher resolution on the laptop...

Slingbox Pro provides compatibility with HD signals, it’s important to note that the Slingbox can’t actually transmit high-definition video resolutions: Slingbox scales down all video to standard TV resolution on your home network, and even lower resolution when you’re not at home.

I have the slingbox pro. I think the quality on the laptop will be slightly lower than the TV. There are a lot of things that this depends on, including the type of cable you use and your wireless signal. The laptop end should be fine though. It won’t be great quality but it will be watchable.
