  1. I was unable to get my Sling Link to connect to the other unit attached to the Sling Box in another room. When I called Sling Media they told me it was due to the fact that the Sling Link modules were NOT ON THE SAME CIRCUIT. I tried a similar product and had the same result.

Tech Support twice confirmed Sling Link Turbo does not function across different household electrical circuits. This critical fact is NOT mentioned anywhere on their website or in the product’s documentation.

I have wasted hours and money because of this deceptive advertising. I could have easily opted for a wireless ethernet bridge and avoided the hassle. They should fix this immediately and avoid sullying an otherwise fine Sling Box Product line.

UPDATE: To be fair, after some experimentation with various circuits in the house I had a similar experience as noted in another review. The Sling Link Turbo did work across some different circuits despite what tech support said. In fact it also worked with additional Homeplug Turbo SE-HP-T2 power plug units that do the same thing as the Sling Link. HOWEVER IT DID NOT WORK ON ALL CIRCUITS and naturally this was the case on the ONE PLUG :-( I needed it to work on.

So it may work in your specific application, but unless it is on the same circuit there is no guarantee. I now give it THREE STARS and a buyer caution.

  2. Not only was this a simple plug and play (hooked up legacy Slingbox Classic & Direct TV DVR), it also worked with my Netgear X102 plug and allowed another connection at another room. This SlingLink was bought to replace my Netgear X102 plugs which stopped working and now I know that one is broke and the other is still working and will work with the SlingLink. I don’t know how to test speeds but everything seems to be working fine.

  3. I had my slingbox connected directly to my Airport Extreme router in the Guest Bedroom and was consistently getting up to 8000Kbps using the Sling Mac client with no issues. I was forced to move the Slingbox over to another room and bought the Sling Powerline because I could not run a wire between the rooms. The setup was easy but my performance went down over 65%, now getting max 4000kbps and video is very choppy and jumps back and forth to no signal at all to up to 4000Kbps.

The product will provide the convenience of not running a cable but it will come at a high performance cost.

  4. No problem getting it setup and ready, but it frequently looses connection and using it for streaming to the other end of the house is difficult with this device. Should have stayed with the Netgear for this and upgraded to AV.

  5. I own about all of the Sling products…this one completes the puzzle. I presently live in the Middle East, on assignment. Needless to say, my family needs this like air and water! My home here has reinforced concrete walls, forget wireless internet. Third-world wiring as well, 220v. Took all of two minutes to set up. I use a slingcatcher hooked to the powerline 15 meters from my wired router…I stream from my sligbox back in the States at a peak rate of 750 kps…not bad coming half way around the world! Never had a hint of trouble. I highly recommend this product…also worth looking at the slingcatcher.
