I need to be able to control a VCR at a remote location over the internet. I need full control, including changing channels. I do not want a "Slingbox". For example, I have a GUI on my screen with buttons that control a VCR at my office. I already have a way of streaming the audio and video to my pc. I just need a way to control the functions of the VCR.

Buy a cheap USB to Infrared adapter.
Download some TV 'remote control' software from somewhere and use it to emulate your VCR remote using the USB Infrared device and your PC.
Then use VNC to access your PC remotely and the TV 'remote control' software through that. (Use a VERY secure password and ideally limit access to your Office IP address or something!)
(Oh, and if the IR USB device doesn't point in the same direction as the VCR, then a little tin foil to reflect the light in the right direction can help!)

We really do need more info on what input you are referring to. Which version of the slingbox do you have? Have you tried updating the software and firmware?

The thing is, i want to be using the slingbox pro when i am on travel to control my cable box at home, but since my family is at home and they will want to watch tv too, so will there be a conflict? if i change channels, will they have to watch same channel or is it separate? does anyone know? thanks!!

The Slingbox PRO has a built in analog cable tuner, so you will be able to view analog cable channels independently of what your family is doing.
If you want to watch digital cable channels or any other A/V source, you will be competing with your family for control of the set-top box or other A/V components.

Everything i have seen about the slingbox controlling a tv has something about a Cable Box, and i dont have that. I just have the cable plugged in directly into the Tv, so my question is will the Slingbox pro IR cable be able to control the Tv without the Cable Box?

I have a Slingbox Pro but can see no way for it to control a TV. It just controls boxes that you plug into it.
You might be able to do if you have video/audio output from the TV.
You would need to check your remote control is supported by Slingbox too.
