Question by John: What Should I get to record xbox 360 gameplay in good quality (and possibly TV shows) (choices in details)?
I've done some research and should I get the
Hava Platinum HD (I dont need Wifi)
HD PVR model 1212
A Slingbox (havent done a reseach on this, only heard about it)
(there was something else that started with an H, but I cant find it)
or suggest your own setup.
Ideally, I would want to spend under 0, but suggest whatever would work (I found the HAVA Platinum HD for and was leaning towards that, but I was wondering that since the video has to be fed into that and then out to my TV, would there be noticeable lag?)
Apparently HAVA doesnt record in full HD, just 480i or something similar, any suggestions for HD recording?
The Viera is a TV, I already have an HDTV

I'd like to get a flat-panel lcd monitor to use with my laptop and for watching tv/movies.
What monitor would you recommend? I'm looking for something that's around the 20" range.
And how DO I watch TV on it? I looked around and read that I'd need a TV Tuner or Slingbox? No idea what those are =P...sorry not a techie person. (Can't I just connect the cable line to the monitor?)

You need a TV Tuner card to watch tv on PC
For a laptop this MAY (Not sure) need to be USB
For a PC though you can get a PCI capture card
Any monitor will work (For TV/Movies i suggest something Big)

Most people want to buy Slingbox in order to watch TV at work, but most companies have firewall & do not allowed video streaming, so the device is useless at work. While you are at home, you can watch your real TV, so why bother with Slingbox?
Also the Slingbox Pro doesn't have an HDMI input.
But if you have a use for it, I would think it's OK considering how expensive it is. (I seen it selling for as much as 0.)

Yes.
My husband uses this with his father. He has it set up so his father can receive cable overseas. The picture is pixelated and not as clear as a TV but it is convienent. Expecially if you have it set up to a DVR where you can record the stations you want.
The only issue is if you do not have acess to the Slingbox you may be with out cable and service when there are glitches. If you are using this for business travel, then it should be no problem as at the worst you may have to reset the box and cable when IP adresses drop. This is all what my husband has told me.
All in all he reccomends it but do not expect HD quality, and their could be a little latency involved depending on your internet connection.

You can use the Slingbox TV tuner (or any of the Slingboxes) on multiple computers... just not at the same time. If you are interested in "multicasting" (same video on multiple machines), you need to get a HAVA product (Wireless, Pinnacle PCTVtoGO, etc...). Both products definitely have their ups and down though. I have both products and am currently using the Slingbox to watch NFL as I write this. If you want to watch different things on two different laptops you will need to purchase two products (Sling, HAVA, or Sony Locationfree).
As far as purchasing for less than 0, Buy.com (http://tinyurl.com/yl5m6d) seems to have some of the better prices. You may want to check bargains sites like Bargains for Geeks (http://www.bargainsforgeeks.com/) though.
