Well, I don't know too much about anything, but I have a laptop and HD TV. I connected the HDMI cord to the laptop, then plug into the HDMI spot on the TV. Then after they are conneccted I had to hit "Source" on my TV remote and change it from TV/Cable to HDMI Component. So maybe that helps a little?

Q&A: Is there any way to hook up tv’s to cable wirelessly, or without a hard wire?

Question by mynameinlowercase: Is there any way to hook up tv's to cable wirelessly, or without a hard wire?
I am buying an older home without cable wired for every room. I was wondering if there was some sort of device (maybe like a slingbox), that would allow me to hook up a tv to my cable wirelessly without having to rewire the home to bring in cable boxes to each room.

No sorry, the wireless adapters require you to install device drivers, which you cant on a slingbox, but a wireless bridge should work just fine.

can i hook up a slingbox and a sunrocket internet telephone to a netgear wireless router?

Question by RANDY C: can i hook up a slingbox and a sunrocket internet telephone to a netgear wireless router?

Best answer:

Answer by robspi46825
You can and it will work but both devices can take a lot of bandwidth. If you only use the slingbox internally, you should have no problem. If you are going to use both on the internet, check with your provider to see what your upload speed is. You should have at least 384K upload speed for both. They will function but not be 100%.

Q&A: Want to hook up 2 wireless routers 1 dedicated to gaming or slingbox?

by Jeff Hester

Question by sprinkfitter: Want to hook up 2 wireless routers 1 dedicated to gaming or slingbox?
I want one wireless router on its own ssid to handle only xbox or slingbox, another wireless router with another ssid to handle all 4 laptops. The one linksys g router I have now doesn't work good enough to use a laptop and another laptop/slingbox, slows it down too much distorts both slingbox and slows xbox too. Want to buy the Belkin N1 router. Need help with the best configuration for my situation. I have yahoo dsl, and thought maybe I should buy another dsl modem, and have a router hooked up to each one. I really need the slingbox and xbox to be less restricted. So any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Answer by darconogan
I would first look at moving from DSL to cable (Sometimes twice as fast). You can hook up two routers, but realize that your wireless connection is much faster than your Internet connection so moving from say a G router to an N router WILL NOT speed up your Internet connection. It will only speed up transfer speeds on your intranet. I would make sure that you have the required port configurations set in your router. Visit the gaming site (EA for example) to find out which ports need to have unrestricted access for your games to smooth out. Same thing for the Slingbox, if you allow unrestricted access to these ports your firewall, especially if it is a stateful packet inspection firewall, does not have to slow down traffic to ensure that it is valid.

Can the slingbox tuner hook up to the existing broadband internet line?

by dawhitfield

Question by Matt W: Can the slingbox tuner hook up to the existing broadband internet line?
Can i just split the connection and put on cable to my surfboard and one to the sling box? Also, would i be allowed to change the channel remotely without effecting the tv in the house?

Best answer:

Answer by candl91402
You can in fact split the cable and feed one to the slinbox and the other to the modem. The slingbox has it's own tuner, so you can change the channels over the web without effecting the tv at home. The caveat is that you are unlikely to be able to watch premium or digital channels that way (if you subscribe to them) because the provider's box is needed to decode those channels.

Do I need a DVR or Cable Box to hook up a SlingBox Pro?

by Thomas Hawk

Question by Posty: Do I need a DVR or Cable Box to hook up a SlingBox Pro?
I want to get a SlingBox pro, but do not have a DVR or Cable box. Can I just connect the SlingBox Pro to the cable in the wall?

Best answer:

Answer by laaavi.com
A slingbox will play (or sling) whatever you plug into it. So if all you have is basic cable from the cable in the wall, then the slingbox will play basic cable channels 1-99.

Of course, that's just TV programming. You can connect your DVD player or your appleTV or your security camera, or whatever. And if you happen to get a DVR or a sat box or a cable box, then by all means plug 'em in.

Question by Joe L: Slingbox, can I hook it to a coax plug for cable tv in the wall, then hook it directly to my computer?
Do you need internet or is there a possible way in connecting the slingbox directly?

Best answer:

Answer by Taba
You are misunderstanding what sling box is used for. It is not to put TV on your computer, for that all you need is a tv tuner card.

Slingbox will allow you to access your cable tv through the internet when you are someplace other then your home.

You will need a cable box dedicated to the Slingbox, and set it up where it won't cross interfere IR from the cable box the TV viewers at home will use.
