I bought the AV version. It seems easy to install but came to the third or fourth step. Do I need to plug into the phone jack?
Also, can install the software to other laptops I have so it can access my home tv?

As a fellow Slingbox owner, I can tell you its pretty simple to set up for the most part. The hardest part is configuring it for remote viewing, but even that can be pretty easy depending on the router you have.
You don't tie the Slingbox to your phone line. It will plug into whatever source you want to sling, and into your home network router.
SlingPlayer (the application that lets you connect to the Slingbox) can be installed on as many laptop or desktop PCs you want, totally free of charge. If you want to Sling to a Windows based or Palm OS Mobile phone, the software is relatively inexpensive.
There's a great web community just for Slingbox owners. I've gotten lots of help there in the past, and the folks there are really good about answering questions. They even have a lot of help info that will help you get your Slingbox running. The site is http://www.slingcommunity.com
Sometimes they run contests to give out free copies of the mobile software, shirts, and other Sling gear. I've haven't won anything yet, but I'm always keeping my fingers crossed.

1. Will I be able to control the DVR over the internet from abroad?
2. Will I be able to watch TV from abroad

if you get the slingbox pro this isnt a problem
yea as long as it is highspeed internet 756kbs+
no you will not need a tv since its not needed
also if you have a satellite or a cable connection you can watch this as well.as the dvr you can also record to the DVR from your slingbox

Every time that I insert the installation cd into my macbook, it will not open it. Is there a way to instal the slingbox onto my macbook? or is this just another example of macbook being @$$ backwards with everything and it is not compatible yet?

I have a sprint wireless card for internet access and want to connect the slingbox so that i can leave the laptop at home and access slingbox elsewhere via the internet. when i try to set-up remote viewing, it doesn't allow this. I am new to wireless routers and keep running into a problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Ok, im a bit confused.
You are using a sprint 3G card for your internet connection but you are trying to us a wireless router also?
How are you trying to connect all these things together.
This is what you should do.
Purchase a wireless 3G Mobile Router. Install your sprint card into it. Connect the slingbox to the router.
Purchase a wireless wifi card for your laptop.
That will work without any slowdowns or headaches.
