Q&A: How do I get hardwired internet in my living room via wifi?
Question by : How do I get hardwired internet in my living room via wifi?
My cable modem and wifi router is located in the master bedroom and is hooked up to my DVR and slingbox. I also have a DVR in the living room that isnt wifi capable and needs a wired internet connection. It would be a huge pain to wire a cat5 cable all the way across the house. Is there a way to have like a wireless receiver that connects to a wifi network then outputs hardwired connections? Any constructive solution is appreciated. Thanks.

You want a wireless bridge. One product is described at http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridg , but lots of companies sell them.

Will higher speed internet let me stream more at once?
Question by who1s269: Will higher speed internet let me stream more at once?
I currently have verizon internet and the best speed I can get is 1.5-3mbps.
When I run my hava player ( kind of like a slingbox ) I cannot stream netflix at the sametime.
I am thiking about switching to cable internet at 10mbps for a price increase ofcourse.
With 10 mbps, will I be able to stream the Hava player, netflix and maybe upload photos or play xbox live all at sametime?
Thanks Guys....so how do I know what speed I will get? I would rather find out it will work before going to all the effort and switching providers!
Could I just call service electric and ask how much it really is or does it change per area the service is going to?

Yeah if you are actually getting that speed, but usually ISPs say "up to" so you could be just barely above what you're getting now.

Unfortunately it's not possible. The Xbox 360 won't let you stream anything to any device at all.
You can stream what you see on your PC to your iPod touch but that requires installing additional software which an Xbox 360 isn't capable of (well it's OS doesn't allow you to). So the only way maybe through the Slingbox which you plug in the cables to it and stream.

Movie Copyright? Play legal dvd movie from dvd drive and let someone watch over the internet for a fee?
Question by Vannes: Movie Copyright? Play legal dvd movie from dvd drive and let someone watch over the internet for a fee?
I own a video store. I am wondering if it is legal to rent a dvd movie by reading from a computer and watch it over the internet one customer at a time. I think it is legal since it is played off the orginal dvd media.
My understanding is that there is no licensing need to rent orginal movies. There is the first sale doctrine says you can sell, lent trade or give away any movie title once you purchase it. Here is the reference from wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-sale_doctrine
Sony has the Location free device that can do that and slingbox can do similar function where you can play dvd movie and watch anywhere. I think this is legal for personall use. But, what about for rental purpose?
I called the MPAA people, the website says it want to educate people about what's legal and what's not. But, legal department offer no help at all. It seems like they just want to represent their client and sue people. No advice without a fee.
Thank you for any reply!

Why not ask a movie producer? Got to the Cyberstreme Productions website and ask them. They're bound to know.

This sounds like your firewall could be blocking some of the traffics. I would check that by first disabling the firewall and test. Just don't forget to turn on the firewall. lol
Good luck.

Q&A: Faster internet = better for larger networks?
Question by Joe C: Faster internet = better for larger networks?
I think this is a dumb question that I should know- but here goes. I have 4 computers, a Tivo, and Xbox 360, and a slingbox on my network. Sometimes, the Xbox suffers from lag, etc. If I increase the speed of my internet plan, would that help? (It is wireless, but the signal is fine, the router is 8 feet away.) I was also wondering if it could just be a matter of ping times, and maybe increasing the speed won't work? Anyone able to tell me?
Best answer:
Answer by Joe Mama
Since you have so many devices sharing a connection, that will slow down the xbox and cause lag. Increasing your download speeds can help that. Or turning all other devices off while using the xbox.
