How can I make cable box transmit signal over HDMI AND Component output at the same time (keywords:same time)?

Question by Boris A: How can I make cable box transmit signal over HDMI AND Component output at the same time (keywords:same time)?
I have 3 items to connect: Magnavox 37MF231D/37B, my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD cable box and my Slinbox Pro HD (300-100)
I have stumbled upon a problem: when cable box connects to TV via HDMI cable, it blocks out all other video outputs such as component video, so I cannot use it to connect it to my Slingbox. I can not use component (blue, green and blue) and composit (red and white) audio cable to connect to my tv, since this combination creates sort of a loud static noise from my tv speakers (no problem though when I connect it via HDMI or Coax). So I need to figure out a way to connect my cable box to tv via hdm and at the same time connect to my slingbox via component cable.

Does this mean I am going to have to purchase 2 additional things:
http://cgi.ebay.com/3-RCA-RGB-Component-... - this is a component signal splitter.
and then something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.... - to convert component into hdmi (for tv)?

this seems like it will work, I am just worry about signal loss when i connect all those together. Any ideas as to what I can do or how can I simplify this. Hack the cable box may be??? :)
Thanks, but my TV has problem with component video input once I plug it in speakers make static noise along with the sound, I know component cable doesn’t carry the sound but that’s what it does only when I use it. So I decided to go a little bit long way, just bought a component signal splitter, then I bought component/spdif to hdmi converter adapter. This way I will have component going to slingbox and hdmi to TV: perfect. I am just worried about loss of signal if I am using 2 adapters in between cable box and TV

Don't hack the box unless you're willing to buy it from them.

Just use the COMPONENT output to FEED all...The signal is universal in your situation; Recordable and viewable. I suggest just feeding that signal from the box to a Component Distribution Amp

http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=component%20a/v%20amp&origkw=component%20a/v%20amp&sr=1

It's the better overall choice for your situation

Are there other products that work better but has the same functions as a Slingbox?

Question by RnstC: Are there other products that work better but has the same functions as a Slingbox?
I do a lot of traveling and would love to be able to access the shows recorded on my home's DVR and I am thinking of purchasing a slingbox but was wondering if there are similar and better products than this?

HAVA Platinum HD .. try this..

HAVA excel over the Slingbox in Picture quality. Every part of the viewing experience looks better on the HAVA than on the Slingbox. Even on the early beta version of the mobile client, video looks much crisper...
also the recording features of the HAVA are fun, but since they don’t work remotely they won’t be of much use on the road. The software included with the HAVA seems a little more temperamental than Slingplayer, but generally functions as it should..
i can say that hava is d best alternative if u u r not much interested in slingbox.... :)

First off, you do not even have to connect the slingbox to the TV. The Slingbox Pro HD has a built in tuner where you can just connect the slingbox to a coaxial cable jack. So if there is a coaxial cable TV jack near your router, it's best to place it there. On the flip side, you will only get HD channels that are local. Where I live, CBS is channel 4, so 4-1 will be the HD channel. In order to get cable channels in HD, you will need to connect it to your digital cable or satellite box. You can also use the splitter that it comes with to connect it to both the cable/satellite box and directly to the wall jack so that when you want to watch a premium channel you can do so, but you'll have to watch the same channel as the local TV viewer is watching. When you want to watch a regular cable channel from 0-99, you can do so using the Tuner part. And you can get HD using the tuner if you just want local channels like watching football on weekends or golf on the weekends.

If you are not going to be able to cable your slingbox directly to your router, you can just buy this; http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Actiontec+-+MegaPlug+Powerline+Ethernet+Adapter+(2-Pack)/8913152.p?skuId=8913152&id=1213399954676 This is much simpler than setting up wireless. This will give you a little tutorial on what this device is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9KWdOLgylg

Sorry, what I meant was besides at the home location. That two people can view it remotely. On their website it says only one can, but I am wondering if there is a workaround

Do you have to use the same internet connection to use a slingbox?

Question by Chandler: Do you have to use the same internet connection to use a slingbox?
I'm going off to college and my new dorm doesn't have the channels I like. We are getting internet hooked up and we have separate internet at home. Will slingbox work over two different internet connections?

Best answer:

Answer by Brandon S
You must have 2 Internet connection in order to view TV channels remotely your slingbox provides. You hook the slingbox up to your TV source and to your Internet at home. From where ever you are in the world, you must have an Internet connection there too.

For digital cable, I recommend the slingbox pro. You can hook it up to both the digital cable box and directly to the wall. When hook it up directly to the wall, it will not conflict with local TV viewers. Of course, you can hookup 4 devices to the slingbox pro at the same time. There is a new slingbox pro that is coming out shortly that will have a digital tuner. The current slingbox pro works great for digital cable subscribers more than setellite.

When I want to watch ESPN news at my college, I can do that. When somebody is at home watching TV, then I can switch over to the coaxial input (analog) that is hooked directly to the wall and won't conflict with anything.
