I want HD footage, to a macbook pro, this is the best way i found, but my friend said I could do it with Apple TV, is this ture?
Or are their better ways?
Does any one know of a external USB or Firewire that can do the same thing beecause I don't need to watch TV on a Macbook Pro, heck I don't watch TV on a televison anyways!

The Hauppauge HD-PVR is by far the best option for capturing HD video onto your pc or mac period. It can capture 1080i HD video with surround sound. It is a little pricey however at 8 on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1212-Definition-Personal-Recorder/dp/B0018LX0DY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1233979101&sr=8-1 but I have 2 of them for doing HD cable on my HTPC and I love it. Although it's pricey it captures really nice HD video with surround sound in H.264 format. Even at 0 its still the cheapest option currently on the market for capturing HD video. It really is your only/best option. Plus it works on windows and Mac. Oh, PS Apple TV does not capture video and I'm not sure if the slingbox Pro-HD software for mac is out of beta yet. Basically go with the HD-PVR you wont be disappointed.

I have a TV in a room where I can't receive my DirecTv service. The service tech said he saw a unit on a DirecTv box in another house he serviced that allowed the owner to watch the same show on another TV in another room, that didn't have a DirecTv box. The other TV just needed an antenna to use the device on the TV with the DirecTv, but unfortunately he doesn't know what the device is called. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Dad Needs Help!!

It is a wireless audio video transmitter. They aren't too expensive and are widely available.

I've had a Slingbox over two years now, and it works fine.
BASICALLY:
You hook up the SLINGBOX on your home network. It has an ethernet port. You then hook up your video or cable feed. It has a cable connector as well as audio-video feeds (some have Hi-Def as well).
You install the software on your home computer (or notebook computer) to manage it. For initial setup you have to be on the same home network. The software finds the local slingbox and configures it (you have an "ID" number you have to remember). The SLINGBOX registers with the sling servers so you can always find your Slingbox. You can also set up a password at this time.
You have to install the viewing application on your Notebook PC to view your slingbox remotely. Once done, whenever you are out and about anyplace you have a broadband internet connection, you can 'connect' to your Slingbox ID and use your password to view it.
You control it just like you would control a TV - you click on the tuner and you enter any channel you normally would watch at home, except it is converted to Video over IP and sent to your notebook computer.
The basic Slingbox starts at around 0.
It's not hard to get and set up. If you have, say a DVR, you can control that thru the SLingbox as well...it's pretty versatile. If you have a satellite box, you feed the audio video signals into it and control the satellite receiver as well. It's way cool.
Under normal circumstances you should not have to change anything on your home router/firewall.

I added in a Sling box, Put in my Alias, Finder's ID, Adminisstration, Password, and one last thing i can't remember. But I click Watch to watch TV and I got nothing, no channels, no picture, nothing. I even selected to TV picture I wanted on there and it didn't come on the Sling box. It won't connect to Sling box. This makes me angry, Please help me.

wait till monday and call customer support at 1-877-467-5464. They have the best customer suport in the world. have dealt with them 2 times and they fix everything open 9am-9pm eastern time

Yes, the slingbox just shows what the tv has on at the moment and must be on when you want to watch it.
You can control everything you would be able to control as if you were at home with the remote. There is actually a little remote that pops up next to the video portion.
You guys might run into some problems trying to watch it at the same time, if you pause it, it will pause at the house. He could always just unplug the actual "slingbox" though.
Good luck, oh yeah did you know they have it for your phone. Where you can watch everything on your phone (as long as you have a certian type of phone with windows mobile or symbian s60 operating systems)

My IR cables work correctly. I went through the codes listed for "other". I also tried all the directv codes I saw. Should have TiVo soon. Do you know if it will be easier to connect then?

There is a way to enter code manually. I had a need to do it yet, but I know you can edit it. There are two site you need to visit(see sources). It will give you instructions on how to do it.
