I'm planning on moving out soon and I'm trying to cut as many corners as possibles to save money. Cable internet and phone is just to much for me, you are probably saying its only about 100.00 but the truth is I have to stick to my budget and tv is a want not a need. So I found a solution for me that would allow me to have tv at my house but not pay for it. Let me give you some background information before you get misinformed about the situation. As of today I'm living at home and pay for my own cable box (15.00) since my parents pay for the actual service for the house. I am going to continue to pay for the cable box and leave it at my parents house BUT I'm going to attach a slingbox (which allows you to watch your tv from a internet connection) to the cable box so when I do move in by myself all that I would have to pay for would be internet but would be getting tv as a bonus due to the slingbox. My question is since I'm taking my tv to my house and would be connecting the desktop tower (computer) to my tv does the slingbox back at my parents house also need to be connected to a tv or can it just be connected to a cable box to perform. I know it sounds really confusing so you might want to read this over again. Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

Why don't you just ask the people at Slingbox. I'm sure there is contact infomation for them and they would be happy to answer your question.

I connected my slingbox perfectly fine without any problems whenever I purchased it about 6 months ago. However, as of the last 3 months anytime that I try to use the slingbox, it says that it cannot connect. I have used this slingbox on 3 different computers without any issues in the past. It is not the internet connection, cable box connection, or router. All of those are powered on and connected. Like I said, it worked perfectly fine for about 3 months, but now it simply will not connect. any idea what I can do? thanks
I am using the slingbox ID and not using the IP address..still won't connect. I unplugged everything and it still won't connect.

Check the cables. If the cables are fine then I would unplug it and reinstall.

how many channels does the hp slingbox receive?

i want to buy a slingbox from hp, to watch tv on my laptop. when i go to the FAQ on the website it says that you need to hook up the slingbox to your television in order for it to work. if my slingbox is connected to my tv, then are the channels i receive on my laptop limited to the amount of channels i get on my tv?
example: i get up to 30 channels on my tv. once i connect the slingbox to my televison will my slingbox only get 30 channels as well, or will it get more, less, ect?
also, will my slingbox be able to receive internet channels as well, or only cable channels?
also, do i need to connect the hp slingbox to both my tv AND laptop, or is it just one or the other?

HP is not the industry shaking source of the Slingbox, Sling Media is, Hp just appears to have bought the bragging rights from them.
The slingbox appears only to be an interface device, (a good one) limited only by the channels provided by your entertainment service.
Why not re-familiarize yourself with the product through the inventor, below.

I want to get a Slingbox AV so I can watch my satellite TV (Dish Network DVR) on my laptop. I would like to know how the full screen video quality on my MacBook will compare to the quality on my regular TV that's hooked up to the satellite receiver directly. I wont be accessing the Slingbox over the internet-just on my wireless home network. I use an Apple Airport Extreme base station router and my MacBook is a 2nd generation with a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. Anybody with Slingbox experience please respond. Thanx!

Good luck with this one...this is probably the kind of thing you'd want to set up before you leave next time. You can get a SlingBox for relatively little, so set it up once you're back, and you won't have this issue again.

I never recall making an administrator password for my slingbox. From day 1, I have only used 1 password to control everything with my slingbox. However, recently I had to re-install the slingbox program onto my computer and it connects and works fine on the computer that I installed it on, but not on other computers of mine. When I attempt to click on my network settings to allow remote viewing, it tells me that I must give them the administrator password? I have absolutely no clue what this is because like I said, from day 1 I have only used 1 password to do everything. Any idea what I can do or if the administrator password is located somewhere in the instruction manual? I never recall even making one ...

I forgot the Admin password for my Slingbox
The Slingbox admin password is required to view the Slingbox stream, and to make any changes to the Slingbox settings. For this reason, the admin password is designed to be non recoverable if lost. In cases where the admin password is lost or forgotten, the Slingbox must be factory reset and the setup wizard must be re-run in order to establish a new one. If it becomes necessary to perform this task, please see article # 149869 for step by step instructions.
What to do
Note: You must be on your home network and physically able to access the Slingbox to perform a factory reset.
With your Slingbox powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the back of the Slingbox for five seconds. The lights on the front of the Slingbox quickly flash from left to right, and then flash slowly. The Slingbox is reset after 30 seconds.
Once reset, the Power light stays solid. If your Slingbox is connected to your router, the Network light will also go on when it receives an IP address.
Note: Factory resetting your Slingbox also reverts your firmware to the original firmware version. If you have made firmware upgrades be aware that you will have to make those upgrades again.
