Question by DtommyD: Codecs Manager? Is there such a thing? Video problems - Orb.com / WinTV7.2 with extend, ++?
For "Windows 7" 32bit-
WinTV7.2 with Extend, Slingbox (always solid), Orb.com / Orblive (iphone), Ustream Producer, Windows Media Center,

So I have a lot of video programs that seem to have conflicts at times. I can't really blame the computer for being confused. Microsoft doesn't help the situation as far as I can tell. It's turned into a "Black Art" to make it all work. "Hope" shouldn't be in my tool-belt and I'm sick of this. I use these all for different things so yes I need them all. Not usually at the same time of course. My only semi breakthroughs are stopping a program at start-up or closing then restarting, and reinstalling so the last install takes precedence (hopefully). It's also not a Windows 7 issue as I just left Vista and it's all the same. It's a Codec Cornucopia Cavalcade of CR@P. The Quad C as it were.
Does anyone have advice on how to get a better handle on this? Am I missing something? I've looked for programs/utilities on download.com and I got nuth'in. I hope I'm just not searching right. Is there a way to force codec sharing or duplicate the codecs and separate them?
Any tips / tricks you may know of would be helpful.

I love computers but there a few things I didn't want to know anything about. Networking, Codecs, Registry +++ I now feel dumber knowing what I know.

The more you learn, the more you realize you don't know. That's how it goes :)

I've never totally understood codec management, but have had three strategies in the past:

Download a codec pack - which will install all the common codecs and a bunch more you've never heard of. It'll warn you about conflicts too. I used to use the nemo codec pack, then switched to the k-lite codec pack, which still seems to be going strong.

After that era, I switched to installing exactly the codecs I needed, which was generally just xvid and lame (the acm version, so it's recognized by windows and shows up in programs).

Now I just use vlc media player, which has it's own copies of codecs rather than asking windows for them.

Since you're using multiple video programs, I'd suggest going for that k-lite codec pack.

Good luck!

Question by Randy S: Name one TV Guide website with U.S. TV listings with every show & channel have video clip 2 watch no tv card?
No tv tuner card needed for a TV Guide Online website with United States TV cable listings by zip code with every TV show and every TV channel on grid with available video stream to watch online. Please help me and search for this for me. I've tried slingbox, tvguide.com, yahoo tv, meevee, titantv, aoltv, couchville, imdbtv, zap2it.com, everything you name it none of it didn't do no good. I don't want an online TV Guide that I need a TV tuner card for to watch my U.S. TV listings online based on zip code. I even tried Directv.com that didn't work. What should I do?

Nyrius NAVS500 HD 1080p HDMI Digital Wireless Audio Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System

You have a problem. You want to mount your HD television above your fireplace or other remote location, but you can't (either because of room, cable box placement, or an angry wife) find a way to plug in your other equipment into the HDMI slots. Luckily, for you, there is the Nyrius NAVS500, and while it does have one issue (more on that later) it offers you flexibility with your home entertainment center. Notes on the device - The Nyrius NAVS500 allows you to "Untether" your television from the rest of your home entertainment center. Simply plug the device (DVR, Blu-Ray, PS3, Xbox 360, or other HDMI device) into the *Transmitter* and then plug your television into *Receiver* and you are ready to go. The set-up is that easy, in fact, it is easier than hooking up a VCR. - Quality - The video quality is excellent (true 1080p) with a very minimal delay - less than a second. There is one issue, the audio portion takes about 5-10 seconds to begin (the broadcast is just silent... but it is not out-of-phase). This an be an issue if you are watching broadcast tv- although a DVR can solve part of that problem (it mainly would be an issue if you switching between shows). This delay should not be a noticeable problem with a Blu-ray, PS3, or other device where immediate audio is not needed. For some users this could be a deal killer, but for others it may not even be noticeable. - Audio and video are in sync. There are no issues where you see lips moving with a delay in the audio ...

Q&A: I would like to take a trip and stream the video for my friends live. How can I accomplish this?

Question by Dwight Kong: I would like to take a trip and stream the video for my friends live. How can I accomplish this?
I figure if Slingbox does it, why can't Eye. (speaking of "eye" the eye-fi card has to record then upload and wouldn't be "streamed" or live.)

If you have an iPhone or an Android phone (maybe some other smart phones too), you can use the Qik app to stream video live from your phone. http://qik.com/

Do I need a TV License if I use a Slingbox in the United States, but stream the video to my computer in the UK

Question by dr j: Do I need a TV License if I use a Slingbox in the United States, but stream the video to my computer in the UK
I am living in the United Kingdom for the next year, and am not planning on buying a TV, but wanted to use a Slingbox installed at my house in the United States to watch tv here on my computer.

The television would be from the US, not the UK, so I am wondering whether or not I would need a TV License or not.

Thank you.
The licensing website says if the video is streamed at the same time its played live on a television, then you need a license. The only difference is, this stream is from the United States, so does anyone know if I would need one?

FYI, for those folks who travel a lot and want high speed "3G" internet access while on the road for their laptops or their gadgets like an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch, or a Sony PSP/Mylo/PS3, or Nintendo Wii/DS or Nokia 770/800/810 tablet, an Archos 605 WiFi, or even the Chumby... take a look at this article:

its also a good way to get "3G" speeds on any iPhone! and faster than AT&T!

Q&A: Slingbox AV video quality?

by a11sus

Question by CobMan151: Slingbox AV video quality?
I want to get a Slingbox AV so I can watch my satellite TV (Dish Network DVR) on my laptop. I would like to know how the full screen video quality on my MacBook will compare to the quality on my regular TV that's hooked up to the satellite receiver directly. I wont be accessing the Slingbox over the internet-just on my wireless home network. I use an Apple Airport Extreme base station router and my MacBook is a 2nd generation with a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. Anybody with Slingbox experience please respond. Thanx!
