Q&A: watching u.s. sports overseas?

by Jeremy Toeman

Question by LC: watching u.s. sports overseas?
I am trying to find an option for someone who will be overseas for a year and would like to watch Steelers football and Duke basketball. Our local programming at home shows most Duke games, and half (roughly over the past few years) Steelers games.

We considered the slingbox, various packages on goduke.com and nfl.com (vague information) any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The team and league websites will likely not be able to stream abroad, due to rights issues.

Your best bet is to get a Slingbox set up where it can receive the appropriate channels/services, and have power and a broadband internet connection. You can then watch it abroad on your computer or a SlingCatcher on a TV.

Question by LC: watching u.s. sports overseas?
What is the best option for watching sports while not in the states? Someone is going to Afghanistan for a year, but would still like to watch Steelers football and Duke basketball. Our local programming shows most Duke games, but only some Steelers games- so slingbox may not be the best choice.

Thanks in advance!

Best option for watching TV in France???

Question by jimmym2212: Best option for watching TV in France???
I am studying abroad in France next semester and was wondering what my best option is for watching TV over there. I don't want to get a TV so I would be using my laptop instead. I've kinda looked into Slingbox and Orb. Are there any other options out there?

Question by Keegan Leach: watching tv on the computer?
Does anyone know how i can watch tv on my computer from dish network without the slingbox?

Best answer:

Answer by Mary catherine Brady
Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. Currently, the only way to stream Dish Network Live TV to a computer or mobile device, is with the Sling box. It is only compatible with VIP722 & VIP722k receivers at this time. The sling technology is built into the VIP922 receiver. I hope this answers your question! Happy New Year!

Question by Hoi W: watching satellite tv with Sling box pro?
if you have the slingbox pro, can you watch your satellite programing on your pc while someone else is watching another channel on the tv

Best answer:

Answer by avomatic
only if the other channel on the tv is not a satellite channel, your slingbox will only watch whatever channel is on the satellite reciever, if someone changes the channel at the home satellite reciever manually, then the channel will also change for remote viewing.

Watching US television in Hong Kong?

Question by gchuva: Watching US television in Hong Kong?
I live in Hong Kong and want to watch US tv? Is there any way to do this? I already know about the slingbox option (where I can watch a tv in the US) but I am looking for an option where I do not have to ask a friend to connect the slingbox, and instead do whatever is necessary from Hong Kong.

How do I use Slingbox and Dish together w/o interfering w those watching TV on the primary TV?

Question by Brown Chicken Brown Cow: How do I use Slingbox and Dish together w/o interfering w those watching TV on the primary TV?
Ok..I have dish network with dvr etc. It is the HD style with ONE box that operates in dual mode that allows me to watch a separate tv in one room and someone else to watch in the living room.

I used to not have that and connected my slingbox to the the 2nd tv near the computer and all was good.

Now with the upgraded HD/DVR dual box combo, I am not sure what to do.

I know that I need a turbo connection so that I can connect the slingbox to the dish service, but the primary question is...once I do that can I control the 2nd tv and leave the primary tv free for others to watch while I am away?

Any help is appreciated.

What is the best online service for watching American television while overseas?

slingbox
by nino63004

Question by Matthew: What is the best online service for watching American television while overseas?
I'm moving overseas and want to be able to log on and watch cable TV, DVR shows etc, via the internet. I've seen a few online services that use a slingbox type setup where you pay a monthly fee and they set everything up stateside and give you a logon. Has anyone ever used one of these or have any experience with these?

Best answer:

Answer by FunKills
Don't pay. You can go to ovguide.com and type in any shows and it'll search and find. Also, Sidereel dot com is good 'cause they will even track your shows for you. Once the show is tracked you will see the "main links" (Amazon, ITunes) where you can bbuy the episodes or movies. But right under those links is a button that says "other links" or something similar.
Click that and then you can watch on megavideo or other streaming free links. Megavideo "times out" after 72min of watch time per day, but you can get around that by either working offline after it is streamed or resetting your router box. Megavideo will try to make you pay once the timer is up, but, again, unplug your modem and reset it. All done.
The sites are all streaming so you do not have to download, but there are other streaming sites like divxden that have all kinds of stuff but you just have to download their divx player. Your spyware will go "NOOO!" but it's really not a deal. Just adware, which you remove later.

Good luck. Enjoy.
