Prepare? You hook your cable box to the slingbox and then to your tv and internet...what is there to prepare?
I assume you want to watch tv when your away from your dorm, otherwise there would be no point in owning one.

1st make sure your cable box or whatever AV device you plan on “slinging” is compatible in terms of ir remotes. 2nd ask if your school will allow it on their network. 3rd if 1 and 2 is taken care of then make sure your entertainment console is next to a ethernet connection. if all is well, then you should be okay.
