Which router for wireless and wired network?
Question by mad dog in the fog: Which router for wireless and wired network?
My house is wired with CAT5 and most rooms have at least one network connection. I want to set up a router so that I can have wireless access to the network but also be able to use the wired network for things devices like Slingbox and Sonos. Can someone describe how I should set this up - i.e. can I just set up a single router to do this or do I need to use a wireless router and a separate switch? I'd also like to know which routers/switches you'd recommend in the 0 price range.

Before buying any router, read Cnet reviews.

I have a 5 computer network at home. 1 computer is wireless. I use a Dlink DI-524 wireless router. It has 4 wired ports on the back and wireless capability. It has a built in firewall and it seems to be plenty fast. It cost me $50 with a $25 mail in rebate(so actual cost was $25) at Office Max about 4 months ago.
If you need more wired ports use a switch. They run about $20 to $30 and they are truly plug and play.
As for the wireless setup…
