Help Needed

2 posts in this topic

Hi!

I have just opened a small English learning school here in Turkey and I would like to have American TV channels available for students to watch.

I did consider KODI through an Android TV Box, but it didn't seem very reliable to me. Now I am looking into this Slingbox sharing thing.

How can I have it? How much would it cost me? How secure/reliable is it?

And one more thing. Is there any way to have the American TV channels with closed captions/subtitles? Some channels provide that service, and I was wondering if it is possible to have it through Slingbox sharing.

Any help and/or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think Slingbox sharing would be a great solution for your English learning school.

Essentially, all you would need on your end to view Slingboxes you have access to is the Slingplayer application; it is available for many devices across different platforms, such as computers, smartphones, tablets, et cetera.

The cost of Slingbox sharing depends on whether you'd be looking for a rental or an exchange. Most likely in your position you would be looking for a rental, so the cost would be defined by the price your rental partner is offering the service at. (This would be in addition to whatever your internet service provider is already charging you for your internet connection.)

You will be able to turn on closed captioning on channels which you view with a Slingbox, as the service is designed to essentially transmit the TV service as if you were watching it in the United States; you'll be able to scroll through a programming guide, watch on-demand programming, access interactive features, et cetera. Simply look for the closed-captioning option on the settings of the rental's service and turn them on, as you would as if you were watching the service directly.

I would like for you to keep in mind that there is a seven-hour time difference between Turkey and the East Coast of the United States, and that this time difference is going to come into play as Slingbox content is transmitted essentially live from the Slingbox to the viewer's location. Thus, popular primetime programming airing here in the US will be airing in the early morning in Turkey. Obviously, there will be many more programming options at all hours you will be able to choose from, but depending on what you are looking for, you may want to look into whether your rental offers DVR access, so you can record programs through the US provider's interface and play them back later, at a more convenient time.

Please also keep in mind that Slingbox content can only be viewed through one Slingplayer application/one device at a time, so if you're looking to, say, run this programming to an entire class, I suggest using a projector setup and play the Slingbox through the connected computer.
